Check Out This Truck Destroying A Bridge in Turkey With People One The Bridge

Thank Goodness, nobody died as this truck destroys a bridge in Istanbul, Turkey, and people were crossing it at the time of the horrible collision.  Can you believe, only one person was injured. The video was released by police.

Tornado Warnings & Flooding/Wind Damage in & around Phoenix AZ 01/21/10

Tornado Warnings, (any touch downs?)  went up just North and East of Phoenix Near Scottsdale AZ and Gilbert AZ on the evening of January 21st, 2010.  There are numerous reports of trees down and damage.  Flooding is a major problem with many water rescues happened on the evening of the 21st. Crews are searching for a missing boy swept away in flood waters.

2 small tents Collapsed at Russo-Steele Auction in North Scottsdale in high winds Thursday evening. One person suffered a minor injury and people were evacuated from the larger tent, police said.

The storm has already forced the closure of schools, major interstates and a ski resort, and grounded flights at Sky Harbor, one of the nation’s busiest airports.

The National Weather Service has to survey the damage Friday January 22nd and look for signs of tornado damage or straight line wind damage. They will be looking to see if the downed trees show any signs of  twisting.  In the picture above, of the tree down in the parking lot, it looks like it may have been twisted.   In the mean time there are big flooding issues across La Paz, Maricopa, and southern Gila counties.   Creek levels were still rising on the morning of the 22nd, especially the Tonto, Salt River, and the San Carlos Creek.  Showers and Thunderstorms are still in the forecast on Friday the 22nd of January.  Law enforcement officials said that flooding was still occurring through Friday afternoon January 22nd around Campaign Wash in the Roosevelt area, Pinal Creek was flooding the road crossings in the globe area and both Tonto Creek and Pinal Creek were flooding at all road crossings.

The Video Below: We can’t forget that the mountains got hit very hard with several feet of snow, check out Flagstaff! A Winter Storm Warning Continues into Saturday January 23rd, 2010.  The Snow Level will drop to near 3,000 ft by Saturday morning and Arizona mountains can expect:  3,500ft to 4,000 ft. where they could see an inch.  4,000 to 5,000 ft. 2-4″, 5,000 to 7,000 ft 4-6″, and above 7,000 ft 6-10″.

Surf is Way High in San Francisco, Here’s Video of a Wave crashing over a car !

San Francisco’s Surf is still up January 21st, 2010. The High Surf Warning was downgraded to a High Surf Advisory at 2:23pm on the 21st. A large NW swell continues along the coastal waters up to 16 feet with a dominate period of 14 seconds. Swell of this size will produce large breaking waves and strong rip currents within the surf zone into Friday morning the 22nd of January.

More Snow In the UK & Most of N. Europe

The jet stream is a fast moving river of air in the upper levels of the atmosphere and it has shifted further south than normal.  It usually brings in warmer air into northern Europe from the west, but it’s is over Spain and the prevailing winds have been coming in from the east and north-i.e. the Arctic, Scandinavia and Russia.  This has made for all of the snow in the UK and most of northern Europe for several weeks.  Here’s my favorite videos.

Air always flows from High Pressure to Low Pressure and if you get a strong pressure difference, you get extreme wind gusts.  The air in E. WA is cold and dense, while the air in W. WA is milder.   The wind over the last few days has hit the Cascade Crest and the gaps in the Cascades including the Columbia River Gorge with some gusts as high as 100 miles per hour.  The Fraser River gap in Western Whatcom county and places like Gold Bar, North Bend, Issaquah & Enumclaw have also seen some gusts over 50 miles per hour as the cold dense air in E. WA is forced through the Cascade Passes and it shoots out the other side into the Western WA foothills.   The air in E. WA is starting to warm up on 01/09/10 and the extreme wind gusts in the Gorge are dying down.   El Nino is beginning to kick in and I bet we continue with the milder air in the entire NW.

Warming temperatures helps the roads around Portland to return to normal after a few inches of snow fell on 12/29/09. ODOT estimated 1,000 abandoned vehicles on the interstates and in the suburbs. Great Viewer Coverage below:
