Classic Water Spouts

I was on a boat a few years ago and I had my first and only experience with a water spout off the coast of miami during the Columbus Day Regatta.  There was only one spout and it was large enough to scare us and make the water really rough.  Here is video of 2 water spouts that formed in the Mediterranean Sea in August 2006.

Snow Totals For Eastern CO ending March 24th & Great Video!

Last night, on the evening of March 23rd,  the snow was extremely heavy in and around Denver.   Really heavy !!!  The 23rd of March, 2010 started out with sunshine and by late in the afternoon, heavy rain, soft hail(Grapple), lightning and thunder was being reported which quickly changed to very heavy snow until just after midnight.   Snow continued through the morning rush, numerous flights, schools, and businesses closed due to the slick roads.    The snow is moving  into the Texas Panhandle, clearing is in the forecast for Denver.

13 miles NW of Golden CO (in the foothills) -  21.8″

13 mile NNE of Aurora CO  10″

Aurora CO  12.4″

1 mile east of Castle Rock – 11.5″

1 mile SSE of Estes Park – 11.7″

3 miles SSE of Denver - 9.5″

5 miles NE of Denver – 8″

4 miles W of Denver – 9.4″

5 miles NW of Denver – 7″  (National Weather Service Employee)

2 miles S of Boulder – 7.9″

Huge Waves Kill 2 on Cruise Ship in the Mediterranean Sea

THERE WERE REPORTS OF 60 MILE PER HOUR WINDS IN THE AREA AT THE TIME, THIS WAS LIKELY THE CAUSE OF THE 26 TO 30 FOOT WAVES CRASHING INTO THE SHIP.

Greek and Cypriot officials said, freak tsunami-like waves measuring 26 to 30 feet high ploughed into a Mediterranean cruise ship, sweeping 2 passengers to their deaths and injuring many others.

This horrific tragedy unfolded Wednesday March 3rd, on the Louis Majesty, owned by Cypriot.  The waves developed near the French port of Marseilles with 60 mile per hour wind in the area and a dark and stormy sky.   Witnesses say, the walls of water appeared from nowhere breaking glass windshields in the forward section, as you see in the 1st youtube video above.  The ship returned to Spain after the tragedy.

There were nearly 2,000 people on the cruise ship, 1,350 passengers and 850 crew. The casualties were very serious, one German and an Italian passenger died, at least 6 others were injured.

The Louis Majesty was built in 1992 and it can house 1,790 passengers.  The entertainment, dining and recreation onboard are of high caliber.  There are 6 elevators in the ship, 6 international resturants and 9 lounges.

25 teams of 3 competed and have raised over $41,000 (so far!!) to help people with MS.

We have challenged all teams to a race to raise $9000.00 by March 22.  The first team to get there will win a complimentary trip for all 3 team members to our Annual Awards ceremony in Vail April 15-18.

CHICAGO FEB. 9TH, 2010 HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN  The Official Snowfall total for Chicago, IL for February 9th, 2010 was 12.6 inches, shattering the previous DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD 8.9″ for February 9th set back in 1885.  Not only did this set a new daily record, but this also establishes a record daily snowfall for the month of February!   The previous record daily snowfall for February in Chicago was 11.5″ set on February 18th, 1908 !!  I was there Cheers!
