It has been very wet in Western Washington January 2010(5.89″ of Rain in Seattle so far-Normal is 4.33″), and the area has experienced warm temperatures.  January 2010 may very well go down as the WARMEST on RECORD for Many Locations.

Olympia(Records kept since 1948)

January 2010 through the 25th 43.9 degrees as an average so far  1) 44.0 in 1953  2) 43.3 in 2003   3) 42.9 in 1994  4th) 42.8 in 2006  5th) 42.7 in 1958  (Quillayute has an average of 46.7 through the 25th, and that is a record so far) (Bellingham has an average of 45.9, and that is a record so far) (Hoquiam has an average of 46.9 so far and that is a record so far)

Winter Weather Alerts 01/27 in Pink/Blue & Purple/Utah/Kentucky/NM/OK/N.TX/AR/TN

Winter Storm Warnings in Pink on 01/29 from E. OK to Virginia !

A strong winter storm is developing for the southern plain states Thursday the 28th into Friday January 29th.   Freezing rain will accumulate on power lines and elevated surfaces during the day Thursday in the Texas Panhandle and all of Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City and Tulsa.  Ice accumulations could be 1/4″ to 1″ along with sleet and snow on top of the ice. The heaviest snow and sleet will occur from the Texas Panhandle  into north central Oklahoma where 6-12″ is expected with a gusty N to NE wind blowing and drifting the snow.  Oklahoma City on Jan. 28th has Freezing Rain and Sleet 31 for the high and wind gusts over 30 miles per hour with more on the night of the 28th ICE accumulations, then snow.  The snow ends before noon on Friday the 29th, but the gusts continue. Sunny Saturday, Cold 30.   Everyone in these areas should have a Winter Storm plan.  Avoid or delay travel so you are not caught in a dangerous situation.  Even small amounts of freezing rain or drizzle, sleet or snow can cause significant travel problems.  A Winter Strom SAFETY KIT will be critical should you lose your power and/or water service.  A 3-Day supply of water and food for all people in the apartment/condo/house is a great idea. Don’t forget the pets!  Batteries/flashlights and medical supplies should also be in place and checked.  Keep a kit in your vehicle if you attempt travel.

By the way, New York State is also seeing a lot of Lake Effect Snow Again!
