A Whiteout at the White House- DC Shuts Down 12/19/09
Meteorologist CHUCK BELL’s LATEST FORECAST from nbcwashington.com
Welcome to your weekend everyone! Get ready for a piece of Washington weather history to land on your house today. All indications are that the snow today will break the all-time December record. The 1 day snow record for DC in December is 11.5″ set on December 17, 1932 and the record for the most snow ever in the MONTH of December is 16.2″ in December of 1962. Heavy snow is already falling and will continue for the remainder of the day. Travel is NOT recommended today or tonight. The heaviest snows will fall towards the Bay and the Eastern Shore, but snow totals around the city will likely exceed 12″-18″. The snow will taper off by Sunday morning, but by then everyone will be snowed in. Most locations should get around 12″ of snow, but there will be a few pockets of snow in excess of 24″. Have a great (wintery) weekend. We will be on the air all day.
